In this service, we honour the ancient story of Jesus’ death while recognizing the ways this narrative repeats itself again and again throughout the past and present. It provides multi-sensory ways to engage, confess, and lament, creating a profound and prophetic Holy Week worship experience. Please bring a candle/tea light to participate in this service.

READS Book Club on Zoom
READS Book Club on Zoom
April 9, 2021 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Book: Cher Ami and Major Whittlesey A Novel by Kathleen Rooney
At the Library: 336 pages. UNFORGETTABLE! Gorgeously written! Sharply funny yet heart-tugging. Narrated by both a British messenger PIGEON and an American army COMMANDER, this gripping tale is uniquely told. Based on the incredible true story of a WWI pigeon and soldier, whose lives intersect in France in the “Lost Battalion”, their courage saved hundreds of lives. Now long forgotten, both were hugely celebrated heroes of that war. In this poignant tale the author changes the way we look at animal intelligence, love, duty, hope and endurance; even history itself. And you’ll never look at pigeons the same way again! PS: Extra time in Covid? Treat yourself to her best-Seller “Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk”.
Meet up with old and new friends. Sip your favourite libation and enjoy a lively discussion. Please contact Carolyn Curren for your zoom link! Email: neilcarolyn@idirect.com or call 416-465-6174 .

READS Book Club
READS Book Club
April 30, 2021 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Book: French Exit by Patrick Dewitt
At the Library: 224 pages. “A riotous send-up of modern high society, sparkling with wit and Pathos”. Laugh aloud to the hilarious escapades of the self-inflicted downfall of a wealthy popular N.Y. socialite family. Frances Price, her adult son Malcolm and cat Small Frank, flee disgrace to a friend’s Paris apartment. “Adjusting” to a modest life, they acquire new friends. Like them, the characters are delightfully entertaining, unlikable, pathetic; yet it makes no difference as we root for all and follow along. This comedic “tragedy of manners” overlays themes of humility, generosity, and finding purpose in life. Patrick deWitt picks genres; then puts his own topspin on them (read his “The Sisters Brothers”).
Meet up with old and new friends. Sip, snack and enjoy a lively discussion. Please contact Carolyn Curren for your zoom link! Email: neilcarolyn@idirect.com or call 416-465-6174.
